6 Days Tangier to Marrakech Private Tour: Complete 2026 Itinerary

6 Days Tangier to Marrakech Private Tour: Complete 2026 Itinerary

Six days is the middle option between the 5 day and 7 day Tangier to Marrakech routes. You get one full day in Fes with a local guide, a night in the Sahara with a proper camel trek, and the Dades Valley overnight on the way back — but without the extra desert exploration day of the 7 or 8 day versions. If you’re arriving in Tangier via ferry from Spain or a budget flight from Europe and you want to hit all the main sights without spending a full week driving, this 6 days Tangier to Marrakech private tour is the sweet spot.

This 2026 guide walks through the itinerary, costs, and practical decisions.

Why Six Days Instead of Five or Seven?

Five days forces you to cut the guided day in Fes to a half day, and skip Volubilis. Seven days adds an extra Marrakech day or lets you stretch the desert portion. Six is the first length that includes everything essential — Chefchaouen, Volubilis, a full guided Fes day, a Sahara night, Todra, Ait Ben Haddou, and an afternoon in Marrakech at the end — without any compromises on the must-see stops.

For the shorter version, see the 5 days desert tour from Tangier to Marrakech. For longer options with a desert exploration day, the 7 days private tour from Tangier or 8 days version.

Day-by-Day: 6 Days Tangier to Marrakech Itinerary

Day 1: Tangier to Chefchaouen

Pick-up from Tangier airport, ferry port, or your hotel. Drive south into the Rif Mountains to Chefchaouen — the blue city. Afternoon exploring the old town, the Spanish Mosque viewpoint above the medina (20 minute walk up the hill), and the 15th-century kasbah in the main square. Overnight in a riad in the medina.

Driving distance: 112 km. Time: 2 hours 12 minutes.

Day 2: Chefchaouen to Fes via Volubilis and Meknes

Morning at Volubilis, the best-preserved Roman site in Morocco. Mosaics still in situ, along with the foundations of the basilica, the triumphal arch, and public baths from the 3rd century CE. Continue to Meknes — 17th-century imperial capital. Lunch in the old city, walk to Bab el Mansour and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail (open to non-Muslim visitors). Arrive Fes in the late afternoon. Overnight in a riad in the old medina.

Driving distance: 260 km. Time: 4 hours 30 minutes.

Day 3: Guided Tour of Fes

Full day with a local guide in the UNESCO-listed Fes medina — one of the largest car-free urban areas in the world. The standard circuit covers Al-Qarawiyyin University (founded 859 CE), Al-Attarine Madrasa, the Nejjarine fountain, the Chouara tanneries (best viewed from the leather shop terraces surrounding them), and the Mellah. End at a fortress viewpoint above the city.

Day 4: Fes to Merzouga via Middle Atlas

The long desert day. Stops at Ifrane (chalet-style houses, known as the Switzerland of Morocco), the cedar forest near Azrou where Barbary macaques often appear at the roadside, and lunch at Midelt. Afternoon drive down the Ziz Valley — a long ribbon of date palm groves — to Merzouga.

Arrive Merzouga late afternoon. Camel ride across Erg Chebbi dunes to the luxury camp, with sunset stop on a high ridge. Dinner, drumming around a campfire. Overnight in a private tent.

Driving distance: 500 km. Time: 7 hours 30 minutes.

Day 5: Merzouga to Dades Valley via Todra Gorge

Sunrise over the dunes. Breakfast, return to Merzouga by camel or 4×4. Drive west with stops at Rissani (souk day Tuesdays/Thursdays/Sundays) and the Todra Gorge — slot canyon with cliffs around 300 metres. Overnight at a hotel in the Dades Valley with an afternoon stop at the “monkey fingers” rock formations.

Driving distance: 310 km. Time: 5 hours.

Day 6: Dades to Marrakech via Ait Ben Haddou and High Atlas

Valley of Roses at Kalaat M’Gouna, then Ouarzazate (optional Atlas Studios), then Ait Ben Haddou — the UNESCO-listed ksar used as a set for Gladiator, Game of Thrones, The Mummy, Lawrence of Arabia. Walk up through the village. After lunch, High Atlas via Tizi n’Tichka pass at 2260 metres. Drop-off in Marrakech in the late afternoon or at Marrakech Menara airport if you’re flying out today.

Driving distance: 353 km. Time: 6 hours 30 minutes.
