 Verified Une journée parfaite dans la vallée d’ourika Nous étions un groupe de 6 amis et Abdu nous a emmené dans un magnifique jardin botanique où nous étions seuls pour réaliser un cours de cuisine. Nous avons préparé nos tajines et avons déjeuné dans le magnifique jardin. C’était vraiment magique ! Nous avons ensuite fait une balade dans la vallée d’ourika. If you’re travelling between Marrakech and Fes and want to do it properly, this is the tour. Four days, the very best of southern Morocco, and a route that feels genuinely rewarding from start to finish. You’ll cross the High Atlas Mountains, visit the UNESCO Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, pass through the dramatic Dades and Todra Gorges, and go all the way out to the Sahara desert of Merzouga — where a full day of desert exploration awaits, including a visit to a nomadic Berber family, a 4×4 desert tour, and a camel ride at golden hour. Then you head north through the beautiful Ziz Valley to Fes.

Spectacular sunrises and sunsets, dark skies full of stars, wild Barbary macaques in cedar forests — this is the kind of journey that reminds you why you came to Morocco.

ITINERARY

DAY 1: MARRAKECH → HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS → AIT BEN HADDOU KASBAH → DADES GORGES

An early pick-up from your accommodation in Marrakech, and you’re straight into it. Heading south through the winding Tizi n’Tichka mountain pass, the landscape gradually shifts from the red walls of Marrakech to the dramatic terrain of the High Atlas — rocky ridges, remote villages, breathtaking vistas.

The first major stop is Ait Ben Haddou — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the finest examples of pre-Saharan Moroccan architecture. The ksar’s layered towers of clay and straw rise above the valley in a way that feels both ancient and timeless.

Continuing east through Ouarzazate, you follow the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs to your first night in the Dades Gorges, where canyon walls frame a dramatic evening landscape.

DAY 2: DADES GORGES → TODRA GORGE → MERZOUGA DESERT

After breakfast, the morning takes you through palmeries and ancient villages to Tinghir. The entrance to the Todra Gorge is here — a narrow slot canyon of extraordinary scale, where towering limestone walls press in close on both sides. It’s a short walk but a powerful one: a place of dramatic silence and geological wonder.

From Tinghir, you head southeast into the desert. The terrain grows drier and more open until the majestic dunes of Erg Chebbi appear ahead. You arrive in the late afternoon, just in time for the first of your desert sunsets — from the back of a camel, moving gently across the sand.

Your luxury desert camp provides a warm dinner, lively Berber music, and a private tent for the night.

DAY 3: FULL DAY TO EXPLORE THE SAHARA DESERT

The entire third day is yours in the desert. After sunrise, your guide takes you on a 4×4 excursion through the desert, out to a nomadic family whose lifestyle offers a profound contrast to everything modern. You’ll share tea, learn about their traditions, and gain a window into a culture rooted entirely in the rhythms of the desert.

The afternoon is open: sandboarding, photography, wandering the dunes. At sunset, ride your camel out to the highest dune and watch the sun disappear below the horizon. Dinner under the stars follows, back at the camp.

DAY 4: MERZOUGA → ZIZ VALLEY → IFRANE → FES

Breakfast at the camp, then the final stretch. Heading north, the road follows the Ziz Valley — one of Morocco’s most beautiful river corridors, lined with date palms and ancient mud-brick ksour — before climbing into the cooler air of the Middle Atlas Mountains.

Near Azrou, wild Barbary macaques may make an appearance in the cedar forest. The picturesque mountain town of Ifrane, with its red-roofed European-style architecture, offers a charming contrast before the road descends to Fes. You’ll arrive at your hotel or riad in the late afternoon.

How do I book a tour, and what are the payment terms?

To secure your reservation, we require a percentage deposit (payable via PayPal or Credit Card) at the time of booking. The remaining balance can be paid in cash (Euros, US Dollars, or Moroccan Dirhams) to your driver upon pick-up at the start of your tour. You may also choose to pay the full amount in advance via card or PayPal, though a standard transaction fee may apply.

What is your cancellation policy?

We understand that travel plans can change. Generally, if you cancel well in advance (two months or more), you will receive a full refund. Cancellations made closer to the departure date may be subject to partial refunds or fees, while last-minute cancellations within a week of the tour are typically non-refundable. Are there physical restrictions for certain activities?

Our tours are designed to be enjoyed by everyone, but certain activities require a basic level of fitness. For example, we advise against camel trekking for pregnant women, individuals who have recently undergone surgery, those with severe back issues, or travelers over the age of 70. We can always arrange comfortable 4×4 transportation to the desert camps as a great alternative!

What essential items should I pack?

We recommend packing comfortable, sturdy walking shoes for exploring medinas and ancient ruins. Bring a hat, high-SPF sunscreen, a reusable water bottle, and your camera. If your tour includes a desert overnight stay, it is crucial to pack warm layers (like a fleece or jacket), as temperatures drop significantly in the Sahara at night.

Can we do a day trip to the Sahara Desert? Because the true Sahara Desert (like Merzouga or Zagora) is located quite far from major cities—for example, it is over 600 kilometers from Casablanca and involves a long drive over the Atlas Mountains from Marrakech—it cannot be done in a single day. To truly experience the magic of the dunes, we highly recommend a multi-day tour of at least 3 to 4 days.
