4 DAYS TOUR FROM MARRAKECH TO MERZOUGA

    (45 Reviews)
PRIVATE DESERT TRIP — MARRAKECH & BACK | FULL DAY IN THE DESERT
    OVERVIEW

This tour was made for people who don’t want to rush the desert. Most short desert trips give you an evening camel ride and a morning departure — which is lovely, but it barely scratches the surface. The 4 Days Tour from Marrakech to Merzouga sets aside a full day for Sahara exploration, so you actually get to know the place.

You’ll cross the High Atlas Mountains, visit the iconic Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, travel through the Dades Gorges and Todra Canyon, and arrive at Erg Chebbi in time for your first sunset. The following day is entirely devoted to the Merzouga desert — nomadic family visit, 4×4 tour, sandboarding, camel trekking, and a night under the stars. On the final day, you return to Marrakech through the ancient routes of the south.

    ITINERARY
DAY 1: MARRAKECH → HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS → AIT BEN HADDOU KASBAH → OUARZAZATE → DADES GORGES

An early start from Marrakech, and the first hours are spent climbing through the curves of the High Atlas Mountains. The Tizi n’Tichka Pass is one of Morocco’s most cinematic driving experiences — ancient Berber villages, sheer rocky slopes, valleys falling away far below.

At Ait Ben Haddou, you stop to take in this UNESCO-listed kasbah — an extraordinary complex of earthen towers that has appeared in countless films and series. Continuing through Ouarzazate, you follow the road east to the Dades Gorges, where you settle in for the night at a hotel perched above the canyon.

DAY 2: DADES GORGES → TODRA CANYON → MERZOUGA DESERT

After breakfast, you head east toward Tinghir and the Todra Gorge — a narrow canyon where sheer walls rise over 300 metres on either side of a rocky stream bed. The scale and silence of the gorge make it one of Morocco’s most awe-inspiring environments.

From Tinghir, the landscape opens into vast, stony plains that eventually give way to the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Your arrival in Merzouga is timed for the late afternoon, when the light is warm and golden. You check in to a beautiful riad directly at the foot of the dunes — your first real look at the desert world you’ll spend the whole of tomorrow exploring.

DAY 3: EXPLORE THE MERZOUGA DESERT

An entire day in the Merzouga desert. You start early to watch the sunrise paint the dunes in shades of amber and pink.

The day includes an off-road 4×4 excursion through the desert, a visit to the encampment of a nomadic Berber family — welcomed with tea and conversation, you’ll learn about a way of life that has remained largely unchanged for centuries — plus time for sandboarding, photography, and quiet exploration of the dunes at your own pace.

As the afternoon cools, mount your camel and ride into the heart of the Erg Chebbi for the sunset. Dinner and live Berber music around the campfire follow at your luxury desert camp.

DAY 4: MERZOUGA DESERT → AGDEZ → MARRAKECH

After a final sunrise and breakfast at the camp, you begin the return journey to Marrakech. The route carries you westward through the ancient town of Agdez in the Draa Valley — palmeries, historic ksour, and the quiet beauty of Morocco’s southern landscape — before climbing back over the Atlas Mountains to arrive in Marrakech in the early evening.

    FAQ

How do I book a tour, and what are the payment terms?

To secure your reservation, we require a percentage deposit (payable via PayPal or Credit Card) at the time of booking. The remaining balance can be paid in cash (Euros, US Dollars, or Moroccan Dirhams) to your driver upon pick-up at the start of your tour. You may also choose to pay the full amount in advance via card or PayPal, though a standard transaction fee may apply.

    What is your cancellation policy?

We understand that travel plans can change. Generally, if you cancel well in advance (two months or more), you will receive a full refund. Cancellations made closer to the departure date may be subject to partial refunds or fees, while last-minute cancellations within a week of the tour are typically non-refundable. Please contact us as soon as possible if you need to adjust your dates.

Can I change or modify my private itinerary?

Absolutely. Our private tours are fully flexible. We want your trip to be perfect, so if you wish to adjust your itinerary, simply let us know. We kindly request that any significant changes be communicated at least two weeks before your tour begins so we can make the necessary arrangements with hotels and guides.

Is Morocco a safe destination for tourists?

Yes, Morocco is considered a very safe destination for travelers. The country has a low crime rate, and Moroccan people are globally renowned for their warmth and generous hospitality.

Are there physical restrictions for certain activities?

Our tours are designed to be enjoyed by everyone, but certain activities require a basic level of fitness. For example, we advise against camel trekking for pregnant women, individuals who have recently undergone surgery, those with severe back issues, or travelers over the age of 70. We can always arrange comfortable 4×4 transportation to the desert camps as a great alternative!

What essential items should I pack?

We recommend packing comfortable, sturdy walking shoes for exploring medinas and ancient ruins. Bring a hat, high-SPF sunscreen, a reusable water bottle, and your camera. If your tour includes a desert overnight stay, it is crucial to pack warm layers (like a fleece or jacket), as temperatures drop significantly in the Sahara at night.

    Tour Customizations & Logistics

Are your tours suitable for families and children? Yes! Morocco is a fantastic family destination. Our guided city tours, desert camps, and activities are highly family-friendly and can be adapted to suit the pace and interests of travelers of all ages.

Can you accommodate special dietary needs? Certainly. Moroccan cuisine is diverse and adaptable. Whether you are vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or have specific food allergies, simply inform us at the time of booking, and we will ensure your dietary needs are fully met throughout your journey.

Can we add optional activities to our tour? Yes, adventure awaits! We can easily add optional excursions to your itinerary, such as ATV quad biking, sandboarding down the dunes, or buggy tours in the desert. Just let us know what you are interested in.

Can we do a day trip to the Sahara Desert? Because the true Sahara Desert (like Merzouga or Zagora) is located quite far from major cities—for example, it is over 600 kilometers from Casablanca and involves a long drive over the Atlas Mountains from Marrakech—it cannot be done in a single day. To truly experience the magic of the dunes, we highly recommend a multi-day tour of at least 3 to 4 days.
