4 DAYS FES TO MARRAKECH EXCLUSIVE DESERT TOUR

    0
PRIVATE TOUR — 4 DAYS FES TO MARRAKECH EXCLUSIVE DESERT TOUR

    OVERVIEW

The 4 day version takes the popular Fes to Marrakech route and adds the day that everyone wishes they’d had on the 3 day version: a full day exploring the Merzouga desert by 4×4. That extra day gets you off the main tourist route to Khamlia for live Gnawa music, the abandoned galena mines at M’Fis, and tea with a Berber nomad family in their tent at the edge of the dunes.

You finish in Marrakech having spent two nights around the desert (one in a riad, one in a luxury camp), walked through the Todra Gorge, seen the “monkey fingers” of the Dades Valley, explored Ait Ben Haddou, and crossed the High Atlas — without the trip ever feeling rushed.

Every itinerary is fully customisable to suit your preferences and pace.

    ITINERARY

DAY 1: FES → IFRANE → MIDDLE ATLAS → ZIZ VALLEY → MERZOUGA

Pick-up at your hotel or riad in Fes in the morning. The first stop is Ifrane — a quick break to stretch your legs and grab a coffee — before continuing into the cedar forest near Azrou where Barbary macaques often appear at the roadside.

The route then crosses the Middle Atlas to Midelt and continues south down through the Ziz Valley — a long ribbon of palm groves and small Berber villages.

You’ll arrive in Merzouga in the afternoon and check in at a riad with views over the Erg Chebbi dunes. Easier first night than the standard 3-day version: a proper bed, a swim if there’s a pool, and the desert right outside.

    Approximate driving distance/time: 500 km / 7 hours 30 minutes

DAY 2: FULL DAY IN THE MERZOUGA DESERT

This is the day the 4 day version earns its length. After breakfast at the riad, the day is spent exploring the Erg Chebbi region.

First stop is Khamlia, a small village south of Merzouga famous for its Gnawa music — a tradition rooted in Sub-Saharan Africa, brought here generations ago by communities from Mali, Sudan, and Niger. You’ll hear live music played by local musicians.

From Khamlia we head off-road to M’Fis, an abandoned village with old galena mines (galena was once mined here and used to make kohl). You’ll get a look at the ruins and the entrance of the mine.

Then to a Berber nomad family living near the Erg Chebbi dunes, where you’ll share tea in their tent and learn how they live — moving with the seasons, away from civilization.

In the afternoon, you’ll meet your camels for the ride across the dunes to your luxury camp. We stop on a high dune for sunset and sandboarding. Dinner at camp, then the evening ends around a campfire with Berber drumming and a sky full of stars.

    Approximate driving distance/time: 57 km / 1 hour 15 minutes (off-road)

DAY 3: MERZOUGA → TODRA GORGE → DADES GORGE

Early wake-up for sunrise over the dunes, then breakfast at camp. The day’s drive heads west through Rissani (souk if it’s a Sunday/Tuesday/Thursday), Erfoud, and Tinghir to the Todra Gorge — a deep slot canyon where the Todra river runs between cliffs that rise around 300 metres. You’ll have time for a walk through the gorge.

The road then continues to the Dades Valley, with stops along the way for photos and conversations with local people. Overnight at your hotel in the heart of the valley.

    Approximate driving distance/time: 310 km / 5 hours

DAY 4: DADES GORGE → OUARZAZATE → AIT BEN HADDOU → HIGH ATLAS → MARRAKECH

After breakfast, time to explore the area before driving along the Road of 1000 Kasbahs to Ouarzazate. There’s an optional stop at Atlas Studios — either a proper visit or photos from outside — followed by Ait Ben Haddou, the UNESCO-listed kasbah used in Gladiator, Prince of Persia, and Game of Thrones. You’ll have time to walk up through it.

After lunch, the road climbs into the High Atlas via the Tizi n’Tichka pass and down through Berber villages into Marrakech. Drop-off at your accommodation ends the tour.

    Approximate driving distance/time: 353 km / 6 hours 30 minutes

    FAQ

How do I book a tour, and what are the payment terms?

To secure your reservation, we require a percentage deposit (payable via PayPal or Credit Card) at the time of booking. The remaining balance can be paid in cash (Euros, US Dollars, or Moroccan Dirhams) to your driver upon pick-up at the start of your tour. You may also choose to pay the full amount in advance via card or PayPal, though a standard transaction fee may apply.

    What is your cancellation policy?

We understand that travel plans can change. Generally, if you cancel well in advance (two months or more), you will receive a full refund. Cancellations made closer to the departure date may be subject to partial refunds or fees, while last-minute cancellations within a week of the tour are typically non-refundable. Please contact us as soon as possible if you need to adjust your dates.

Can I change or modify my private itinerary?

Absolutely. Our private tours are fully flexible. We want your trip to be perfect, so if you wish to adjust your itinerary, simply let us know. We kindly request that any significant changes be communicated at least two weeks before your tour begins so we can make the necessary arrangements with hotels and guides.

Is Morocco a safe destination for tourists?

Yes, Morocco is considered a very safe destination for travelers. The country has a low crime rate, and Moroccan people are globally renowned for their warmth and generous hospitality.

Are there physical restrictions for certain activities?

Our tours are designed to be enjoyed by everyone, but certain activities require a basic level of fitness. For example, we advise against camel trekking for pregnant women, individuals who have recently undergone surgery, those with severe back issues, or travelers over the age of 70. We can always arrange comfortable 4×4 transportation to the desert camps as a great alternative!

What essential items should I pack?

We recommend packing comfortable, sturdy walking shoes for exploring medinas and ancient ruins. Bring a hat, high-SPF sunscreen, a reusable water bottle, and your camera. If your tour includes a desert overnight stay, it is crucial to pack warm layers (like a fleece or jacket), as temperatures drop significantly in the Sahara at night.

    Tour Customizations & Logistics

Are your tours suitable for families and children? Yes! Morocco is a fantastic family destination. Our guided city tours, desert camps, and activities are highly family-friendly and can be adapted to suit the pace and interests of travelers of all ages.

Can you accommodate special dietary needs? Certainly. Moroccan cuisine is diverse and adaptable. Whether you are vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or have specific food allergies, simply inform us at the time of booking, and we will ensure your dietary needs are fully met throughout your journey.

Can we add optional activities to our tour? Yes, adventure awaits! We can easily add optional excursions to your itinerary, such as ATV quad biking, sandboarding down the dunes, or buggy tours in the desert. Just let us know what you are interested in.

Can we do a day trip to the Sahara Desert? Because the true Sahara Desert (like Merzouga or Zagora) is located quite far from major cities—for example, it is over 600 kilometers from Casablanca and involves a long drive over the Atlas Mountains from Marrakech—it cannot be done in a single day. To truly experience the magic of the dunes, we highly recommend a multi-day tour of at least 3 to 4 days.
