To tell the true, beyond his kindness during the tent booking, he supported us throughout the entire trip by giving us tips and warnings about the route. This is one of the routes we’re most proud of. The 5 Days Marrakech to Chefchaouen Desert Tour takes you from the warm red city of Marrakech, deep into the golden Sahara desert, north through the ancient medina of Fes, and all the way to the famous blue city of Chefchaouen, perched high in the Rif Mountains. It’s a journey that crosses Morocco from south to north and captures the country in all its vivid, contrasting beauty — ancient and modern, desert and mountain, Saharan and Mediterranean.
You’ll ride camels at sunset over the Erg Chebbi dunes, sleep under the desert stars in a luxury camp, explore the labyrinthine medina of Fes with a local guide, and wander the photogenic blue-painted alleyways and cascading bougainvillea of Chefchaouen. All of it, in five days.
Every itinerary is fully customisable to suit your preferences and pace.

Your driver picks you up from your accommodation in Marrakech in the morning. The route heads south through the High Atlas Mountains, cresting the Tizi n’Tichka Pass — one of North Africa’s most dramatic mountain drives. Berber villages punctuate the switchbacks, and the mountain views are extraordinary.
Your first major stop is the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou — a UNESCO World Heritage Site of remarkable earthen architecture that has served as a filming location for some of cinema’s most iconic productions. The kasbah rises from the valley floor in a complex of towers, alleyways, and fortified walls that tell the story of Morocco’s ancient trans-Saharan trading routes.
The afternoon takes you east along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, through date palm groves and ruined fortresses, until you reach your overnight accommodation in the Dades Valley — a beautifully situated hotel framed by the dramatic gorge.
A morning drive east brings you to the Tinghir Oasis, where a wide green belt of date palms and crops stretches along the riverbed — a vivid reminder of how life here depends entirely on water. Beyond Tinghir, the road enters the Todra Canyon, where sheer limestone walls tower hundreds of metres above, creating a narrow passageway of extraordinary natural drama.
Continuing southeast, the landscape gradually opens into the pre-Saharan desert — flat, stony, and increasingly golden. By late afternoon, the great dunes of Erg Chebbi appear ahead. You arrive in time to saddle up your camel and ride into the heart of the dunes as the sun puts on its finest show — a blazing desert sunset that turns the sand into copper and flame.
Dinner at the luxury desert camp is followed by an evening of traditional Berber percussion and singing around the campfire, beneath one of the world’s most extraordinary night skies.
After sunrise and a final breakfast at the camp, you begin the long but rewarding drive north to Fes. The route follows the Ziz Valley — a corridor of lush date palm groves stretching along the riverbanks — before climbing into the cooler, forested terrain of the Middle Atlas Mountains.
Near Azrou, wild Barbary macaques may be spotted in the ancient cedar forest — a charming and unexpected wildlife encounter. The European-style mountain town of Ifrane, with its red-roofed chalets and mountain scenery, makes for an atmospheric stop before the road descends toward Fes.
You arrive in Fes — the spiritual and intellectual heart of Morocco — in the late afternoon. Check in to your riad or hotel in or near the medina.
The morning is spent exploring the UNESCO-listed medina of Fes el-Bali — one of the world’s largest living medieval cities. With a knowledgeable local guide, you’ll navigate more than 9,000 narrow alleyways, visit the famous Chouara Tanneries, the Bou Inania Madrasa, the Andalusian Quarter, and the bustling souks where artisans craft leather, brass, ceramics, and textiles in workshops that have barely changed in centuries.
In the early afternoon, your journey continues north by private vehicle toward the Rif Mountains and the legendary Blue City of Chefchaouen. Arriving in the late afternoon, you’ll have time to begin exploring the medina’s photogenic blue-painted lanes before dinner.
Your final morning in Chefchaouen is one of the most peaceful of the entire trip. Get up early and wander the medina before the day-trippers arrive — the blue alleyways in the morning light are genuinely magical. Visit the central Plaza Uta el-Hammam, browse the handicraft shops for locally woven blankets and handmade goods, and hike above the town to the Spanish Mosque for a panoramic view of Chefchaouen against the backdrop of the Rif Mountains.
In the afternoon, your driver will take you onward to your chosen destination: Tangier, Fes, Casablanca, or back to Marrakech — depending on your onward travel plans.
To secure your reservation, we require a percentage deposit (payable via PayPal or Credit Card) at the time of booking. The remaining balance can be paid in cash (Euros, US Dollars, or Moroccan Dirhams) to your driver upon pick-up at the start of your tour. You may also choose to pay the full amount in advance via card or PayPal, though a standard transaction fee may apply.
We understand that travel plans can change. Generally, if you cancel well in advance (two months or more), you will receive a full refund. Cancellations made closer to the departure date may be subject to partial refunds or fees, while last-minute cancellations within a week of the tour are typically non-refundable. Please contact us as soon as possible if you need to adjust your dates.
Absolutely. Our private tours are fully flexible. We want your trip to be perfect, so if you wish to adjust your itinerary, simply let us know. We kindly request that any significant changes be communicated at least two weeks before your tour begins so we can make the necessary arrangements with hotels and guides.
Yes, Morocco is considered a very safe destination for travelers. The country has a low crime rate, and Moroccan people are globally renowned for their warmth and generous hospitality.
Our tours are designed to be enjoyed by everyone, but certain activities require a basic level of fitness. For example, we advise against camel trekking for pregnant women, individuals who have recently undergone surgery, those with severe back issues, or travelers over the age of 70. We can always arrange comfortable 4×4 transportation to the desert camps as a great alternative!
We recommend packing comfortable, sturdy walking shoes for exploring medinas and ancient ruins. Bring a hat, high-SPF sunscreen, a reusable water bottle, and your camera. If your tour includes a desert overnight stay, it is crucial to pack warm layers (like a fleece or jacket), as temperatures drop significantly in the Sahara at night.
Are your tours suitable for families and children? Yes! Morocco is a fantastic family destination. Our guided city tours, desert camps, and activities are highly family-friendly and can be adapted to suit the pace and interests of travelers of all ages.
Can you accommodate special dietary needs? Certainly. Moroccan cuisine is diverse and adaptable. Whether you are vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or have specific food allergies, simply inform us at the time of booking, and we will ensure your dietary needs are fully met throughout your journey.
Can we add optional activities to our tour? Yes, adventure awaits! We can easily add optional excursions to your itinerary, such as ATV quad biking, sandboarding down the dunes, or buggy tours in the desert. Just let us know what you are interested in.
Can we do a day trip to the Sahara Desert? Because the true Sahara Desert (like Merzouga or Zagora) is located quite far from major cities—for example, it is over 600 kilometers from Casablanca and involves a long drive over the Atlas Mountains from Marrakech—it cannot be done in a single day. To truly experience the magic of the dunes, we highly recommend a multi-day tour of at least 3 to 4 days.
