4 DAYS DESERT TOUR FROM MARRAKECH

    (19 Reviews)
PRIVATE DESERT TRIP — MARRAKECH & BACK
    OVERVIEW

Four days is a sweet spot for exploring southern Morocco. It’s long enough to take your time — to actually stop at places rather than just drive past them — and short enough to still feel like a focused, coherent adventure. Our 4 Days Desert Tour from Marrakech has been consistently rated by past travellers as one of the most satisfying experiences we offer, and it’s easy to understand why.

You’ll travel through the soaring passes of the High Atlas, discover the ancient kasbahs of the Draa and Dades valleys, walk through the incredible Todra Gorge, ride camels into the Erg Chebbi dunes at sunset, sleep under a sky brilliant with stars, and return to Marrakech via the scenic Draa Valley and Ouarzazate. Four days, and you’ll feel like you’ve seen a whole other country.

    ITINERARY

DAY 1: MARRAKECH → HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS → SKOURA → DADES GORGES

You leave Marrakech in the morning and head south, climbing through the dramatic Tizi n’Tichka Pass in the High Atlas Mountains. Traditional Berber villages line the slopes, and the views grow more expansive with every turn of the road.

The afternoon brings you to the Skoura Oasis — a surprise burst of green palmery and kasbahs in the midst of the pre-desert landscape — before you arrive in the Dades Gorges. The gorge valley, with its striking rock formations and dramatic cliffs, is one of Morocco’s most photogenic settings. You’ll spend the night here, with the canyon walls glowing at last light.

DAY 2: DADES GORGES → TODRA CANYON → MERZOUGA DESERT

After breakfast, you head east toward the Tinghir Oasis — date palms and fruit trees lining the banks of the river — before entering the extraordinary Todra Canyon. At its narrowest point, the canyon walls tower over 300 metres above a clear mountain stream. It’s one of the most dramatic natural corridors in Africa.

From Tinghir, the terrain flattens and dries as you push toward the desert. By mid-afternoon, the first dunes of Erg Chebbi appear against the horizon. You arrive in time to saddle up and trek into the dunes by camel as the setting sun transforms the sand into a palette of gold and copper.

At your luxury desert camp, warm dinner and an evening of live Berber drumming and music await, followed by a night under one of the world’s darkest skies.

    DAY 3: MERZOUGA → RISSANI → AGDEZ → OUARZAZATE

After a desert sunrise and a leisurely breakfast at the camp, today’s drive carries you westward through the historic market town of Rissani — once the last caravan stop before the Sahara and the ancestral home of the Alaouite dynasty. The road continues through Agdez in the Draa Valley, where ruined kasbahs and palmeries line the riverbanks.

By late afternoon, you arrive in Ouarzazate — Morocco’s Hollywood, home to Africa’s largest film studio and a fascinating mix of Saharan and cinematic history. You’ll overnight here, between the desert and the mountains.

DAY 4: OUARZAZATE → AIT BEN HADDOU KASBAH → TELOUET KASBAH → MARRAKECH

The final day offers two of Morocco’s most remarkable heritage sites. First, the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah — UNESCO-listed, made of extraordinary earthen towers, and known to film lovers the world over. Then, the lesser-visited Telouet Kasbah: a crumbling 19th-century palace high in the Atlas Mountains, once the seat of the powerful Glaoui family. Its ornate interiors are a striking reminder of a Morocco that existed just a few generations ago.

From Telouet, the mountain road winds back down to Marrakech, where you’ll be dropped at your accommodation in the early evening.

    FAQ

How do I book a tour, and what are the payment terms?

To secure your reservation, we require a percentage deposit (payable via PayPal or Credit Card) at the time of booking. The remaining balance can be paid in cash (Euros, US Dollars, or Moroccan Dirhams) to your driver upon pick-up at the start of your tour. You may also choose to pay the full amount in advance via card or PayPal, though a standard transaction fee may apply.

    What is your cancellation policy?

We understand that travel plans can change. Generally, if you cancel well in advance (two months or more), you will receive a full refund. Cancellations made closer to the departure date may be subject to partial refunds or fees, while last-minute cancellations within a week of the tour are typically non-refundable. Please contact us as soon as possible if you need to adjust your dates.

Can I change or modify my private itinerary?

Absolutely. Our private tours are fully flexible. We want your trip to be perfect, so if you wish to adjust your itinerary, simply let us know. We kindly request that any significant changes be communicated at least two weeks before your tour begins so we can make the necessary arrangements with hotels and guides.

Is Morocco a safe destination for tourists?

Yes, Morocco is considered a very safe destination for travelers. The country has a low crime rate, and Moroccan people are globally renowned for their warmth and generous hospitality.

Are there physical restrictions for certain activities?

Our tours are designed to be enjoyed by everyone, but certain activities require a basic level of fitness. For example, we advise against camel trekking for pregnant women, individuals who have recently undergone surgery, those with severe back issues, or travelers over the age of 70. We can always arrange comfortable 4×4 transportation to the desert camps as a great alternative!

What essential items should I pack?

We recommend packing comfortable, sturdy walking shoes for exploring medinas and ancient ruins. Bring a hat, high-SPF sunscreen, a reusable water bottle, and your camera. If your tour includes a desert overnight stay, it is crucial to pack warm layers (like a fleece or jacket), as temperatures drop significantly in the Sahara at night.

    Tour Customizations & Logistics

Are your tours suitable for families and children? Yes! Morocco is a fantastic family destination. Our guided city tours, desert camps, and activities are highly family-friendly and can be adapted to suit the pace and interests of travelers of all ages.

Can you accommodate special dietary needs? Certainly. Moroccan cuisine is diverse and adaptable. Whether you are vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or have specific food allergies, simply inform us at the time of booking, and we will ensure your dietary needs are fully met throughout your journey.

Can we add optional activities to our tour? Yes, adventure awaits! We can easily add optional excursions to your itinerary, such as ATV quad biking, sandboarding down the dunes, or buggy tours in the desert. Just let us know what you are interested in.

Can we do a day trip to the Sahara Desert? Because the true Sahara Desert (like Merzouga or Zagora) is located quite far from major cities—for example, it is over 600 kilometers from Casablanca and involves a long drive over the Atlas Mountains from Marrakech—it cannot be done in a single day. To truly experience the magic of the dunes, we highly recommend a multi-day tour of at least 3 to 4 days.
